Jacinta Read is an Oxford-based writer and artist. She uses a combination of pencil and digital media to create her artwork. Her love of dance and old musicals shows through her characters and compositions, drafts of which are always vetted by her own two children. Jacinta is Welsh/Chinese and feels that her multicultural upbringing has enabled her to be quick in finding common ground with people from different backgrounds. She believes that difficult subjects such as mental health can be approached with humour and a light touch, and hopes to make books that delight, enlarging children’s worlds while shortening divides. Jacinta has a PhD in creative writing and a BA in Fine Art, and her favourite illustrators are Quentin Blake, Maurice Sendak, and Anthony Browne.
