Holly Bushnell

About me:

Holly Bushnell is a freelance illustrator from Merseyside. Her style is colourful, detailed and imaginative, with the natural world, historical characters, animals and mystical creatures being the focus of her work. Her illustrations have been described as ‘little bits of happy’ by the ‘Teen of Queen’ bestselling author Cathy Cassidy. Choosing not to attend University due to student debt, Holly decided to enter work and also set herself up as a freelance illustrator doing murals, illustrations for self-published authors and other commissioned work. After leaving school, she worked as a bookshop assistant, during which time she met many authors and illustrators at events – also a part-time barista in Costa. She is inspired amongst others by Axel Scheffler, Judith Kerr, Jacqueline East, Nick Butterworth, Nick Sharratt, Vashti Harrison, Frank Rodgers and Quentin Blake. Holly’s dream is to become a full-time children’s author/illustrator, working for a publishing house
