Ayesha Gamiet is an artist, illustrator, and art educator from the South East of England. Her love of colour and pattern inspired her to learn about the rich and vibrant arts of Persian and Indian miniature painting, and Islamic manuscript illumination. These influences continue to inspire and inform her work. Ayesha creates her illustrations by hand, using gouache, watercolour, and collaged papers. She makes her own gold paint from gold leaf, called “shell gold”, and sometimes makes other colours from nature, too! Ayesha believes in the power of storytelling to entertain, inspire, and understand ourselves and the world around us. She cites Sophie Blackall, Maurice Sendak, and Shaun Tan as her inspirations.
