Darryl CliftonIllustration Programme Director
Darryl Clifton studied Visual Communication at Kent Institute of Art and Design and Illustration at the Royal College of Art. He has broad experience working in education at home and abroad and spent five years developing the education profile at cutting edge moving image events/production company onedotzero, working with high profile Institutions like the V&A Museum and Hayward Gallery. In 2010 he re-launched Camberwell Press a design and held the role of Director until September 2014. In 2011 Clifton co-founded Mokita, a curated event platform for critical debate around the subject of Illustration regularly hosting events at Somerset House. Clifton is currently Illustration Programme Director at Camberwell College of Arts, CCW, UAL. He holds positions on the editorial boards of the Journal of Illustration and Varoom and is a board director of the Association of Illustrators (AOI).
Matthew HawkinsSenior Lecturer, Illustration
Matthew Hawkins is a graphic artist and educator based in London. Since graduating from the Royal College of Art he has developed a strong visual identity that incorporates a broad spectrum of influences and disciplines, all of which are consolidated by his passion for drawing. Working predominantly in pencil, pen and markers he constructs imagery from an unexpected combination of doodles, sketches and studies – influences include the figure in the landscape, place, beauty, architecture, cinema and the surreal. These variants are explored in a vibrant and confrontational graphic language.
His work has been exhibited internationally and featured in numerous publications including Creative Review, It’s Nice That, Grafik Magazine, Varoom Magazine, Dazed & Confused and This is a Magazine. Matthew has 20 years teaching experience and has been working at Camberwell College of Arts since 2007.
Nicolas BurrowsAssociate Lecture, Illustration
Nicolas Burrows is an illustrator and artist working primarily with collage, creating abstract and figurative compositions influenced by outsider art and modernist design. His dynamic, playful compositions have been applied to animation, editorial illustration, textiles, packaging design and record covers. He has made work for The New York Times, Domino Records, Airbnb, Vevo, Modus and The Idler. He is the author/illustrator of the award-winning children’s book ‘The Elephant Hotel’. Since 2007 Nicolas has collaborated on a wide range of projects with Jay Cover and William Luz as Nous Vous. He is an Associate Lecturer on BA Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts and makes music under the name Fell
